Books have a magical power to move the heart and the mind.
I'll recommend any of these.
Fact
- Brad King, John Borland: Dungeons & Dreamers: The Rise of Computer
Game Culture From Geek to Chic A good book although emphasizes lot of
things differently than I would. Role-playing games were not just a prelude
for digital gaming, but they are still alive and kicking.
- Gerard Jones: Killing Monsters: Why Children Need Fantasy, Super
Heroes, and Make-Believe Violence Like the name says, make-believe
violence can be good for the kids.
- Osmo Soininvaara: Ministerikyyti The only truely political book
I've read. Had some good points on where Finland should go.
- Sigmund Freud: Totem and Taboo You can ask me for my 'Freud
speech' and I'll tell you about my view on this.
- Stephen Hawking: Ajan lyhyt historia A classic for physics.
- T. Louise Brown: Sex Slaves: The Trafficking of Women in Asia I
love Asia, but this book opens your eyes to the fact that not all is like
it seems. Probably, and sadly, true for any part of the world.
- Al Ries & Jack Trout: The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing This book claims
to be about marketing but I'd say it's a really revealing guide to the workings of a
human mind. Can be applied to many other doctrines as well, like politics. Answers
the question why truth does not always prevail.
Fiction
- Arno Kotro: Sanovat Sitä Rakkaudeksi The only book of poetry
I've read. Very captivating. Maybe I should try others too.
- Douglas Adams: Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy You can't even
read newspaper cartoons these days if you don't know what 42 stands for.
- Erland Loe: Supernaivi A feel good book. Maybe a reason for
these lists.
- J.R.R. Tolkien: The Lord of The Rings The movies are good but
don't beat the original.
- Ursula Le Guin: Maameren velho On the list mostly for nostalgic
reasons. The first book that took me to the world of fantasy.
- Willian Gibson: neurovelho A classic of cyber genre.
I most likely forgot some, but I'll be adding them later. Any suggestions what I should read next?
